Berkhamsted Castle is a Motte and Bailey castle which dates from 1066. William the Conqueror met the British noblemen at this site after the Battle of Hastings and accepted the British Crown. Shortly afterwards his half brother Robert of Mortain began to build the castle.The view here is showing the view into the castle in the deep mid-winter snow. Free to visit 10-4 daily. (winter opening hours) closed Christmas and New Years Day.
