Marston Gate Station

This painting based in the 1950s shows Marston Gate station, the intermediate stop between Aylesbury and Cheddington, Bucks. The first branch line in the country which opened in 1839. The seven mile single track line was one mile from Long Marston village (Herts). The branch received a Royal visit in 1883 when King Edward VII as Prince of Wales was en route to Waddesdon Manor. Station Master Jack Rogers is pictured with his young companion outside the booking office.The station closed to passengers 2.2.53 and to freight traffic 2.12.63.The locomotive is LMS 40421 hauling a local goods train
