The Wizard of Oz was released in August 1939 in America. When it reached Great Britain in December of that year the London Board of Film Censors, concerned that some scenes would frighten youngsters, decreed Oz could be seen by children only when accompanied to the cinema by an adult. This painting took me over three months to cxomplete. Alabour of love as the Wizard of Oz is my all-time favourite film, and I grew up going to the Rex in the 1970's. I remember people smoking inside, and watching the smoke rise into the beam of light.
