The Rex Interior 1939 Berkhamsted Original Painting
The Rex Interior 1939 Berkhamsted Original Painting
The Wizard of Oz was released in August 1939 in America. When it reached Great Britain in December of that year the London Board of Film Censors, concerned that some scenes would frighten youngsters, decreed Oz could be seen by children only when accompanied to the cinema by an adult. This painting took me over three months to complete. A labour of love as the Wizard of Oz is my all-time favourite film, and I grew up going to the Rex in the 1970's. I remember people smoking inside, and watching the smoke rise into the beam of light. Please note I was unable to re-create the beam using gouache paint (It was professsionally added digitally). Therefore you may wish to view the original of this painting beforehand if you are considering buying it.
I now offer the original artwork for sale direct from my studio in Tring, Herts. The originals are hand-painted painted using water-based Winsor & Newton professional gouache paint on Arboreta E.S. white drawing cartridge paper 160g/m2
